Glitch Bar hosted the debut launch of Hotel Motel and, to put it mildly, it was a massive success. We had a huge turnout and fantastic feedback on the project. Thank you all for coming and making the event such a riot.
Two on-the-run crims hole up for the night in a lonesome Hotel Motel. Cut off from information, their search for a television brings them into contact with the other denizens on the hotel, individuals even more desperate than they are.
Run time: 13'25"
'Hotel Motel' marks the short film debut of director Michael Wannenmacher. Shot by Karl Siemon (Razor Eaters, Radio Samurai) with sound design and original music by Paul Witty (Disstroyer, Tank, Dead Mans Merlot), ‘Hotel Motel’ is a black comedy with a disturbing, gritty feel. Filmed on location in Footscray, Melbourne it has a distinctly Australian flavour with a sweaty ‘pub rock’ atmosphere.
Newcomers Anthony Sharpe and Joshua Cameron provide exciting and fresh performances while well known Australian actors Don Bridges, Jeremy Kewley and the late Esme Melville show all their talent and skills honed by years of experience in the industry. This is Esme’s last screen performance before passing away late in 2006.
'Hotel Motel' has been reviewed in the September issue of micro filmmaker magazine. Not only is it a very positive review, we were awarded the 'Best of Show Editor's Choice' award for the month, beating out some serious competition from one of Foxtel's 'On the Lot' contestants. Yeehah!!! Read the full review by Jeremy Hanke here.
Oct 9th - YEEHAH! WE'RE GOING TO TEXAS! 'Hotel Motel' will screen as part of the 2007 Rockport TX Film Festival in early November. Many thanks to the Lone Star State for providing BDf with its mainland US debut.
Oct 1st - 'Hotel Motel' will make it's North American debut at AIFF- the 2007 Anchorage International Film Festival in Alaska. The film's dusty brown Australian sensibility should make for quite a contrast with the snowy Alaskan winter. We beat out 400 other films to gain official selection in the festival which is quite an achievement. Congratulations to all involved.
Aug 24th - WE'VE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO MUFF8! 'Hotel Motel' will be screening at LOOP on WEDNESDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER @ 7:00PM as part of the 'Mini Muff 5' program. LOOP is located in the heart of the city at 23 Meyers place, off Bourke street at the Parliament end of town. We're all very excited here at BDF as this will be our Festival debut, so all you Melbournites get out there and support Independent film!
